Stewart StephensonWhen it comes to fine art, marketing and over all creative abundance, Stewart Stephenson is an artistic Jedi. Highly collected, both locally and internationally, Stewart has been gaining some serious notority in the art world. In his earlier days, Stewart travelled to galleries around the world to get up close an personal with the work of his predessors, the modern masters. Flash forward five years later to today, he has a giant studio in Yaletown and two very successful galleries, one in Seattle and the other here in Vancouver. Known for his large scale, vibrant paintings and flawless high gloss finishes, some of Stewart's most recent works have fetched up to a cool $100,000. Not bad, for a man who made his living in the business world, before abandoning it all to pursue his true calling, a self taught artistic genius. This October, Stewart will be the headlining artist for the much anticipated urban - pop - contemporary art showcase "Art Rapture." For more information visit his website: www.StewartStephenson.com

The Art of Andrea HoodgeAndrea Hooge, is a Vancouver based artist living and working out of her home studio in East Vancouver. Over the years, she has been cultivating a signature style which is a nod to the nostalgia of vintage magazines and old children's books. Her main focus has been creating figurative oil paintings on wood or hardboard panel. Until, she mastered the art of the scratch board, where she carefully hand scratches extremely detailed imagery onto custom cut out scratch boards, enabling her to move a way from conventional shapes and sizes. Each piece is carefully and precisely scratched out with focus and intent. Andrea attended the University of the Fraser Valley, where she received her Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in Psychology and a minor in visual arts.
Her work has been exhibited in various group shows in Vancouver, and she has had three solo exhibitions, titled "Dolly," "Scratch," and "Menno Kitty" all at Hot Art Wet City. She will be exhibiting a new solo show at Hot Art Wet City in April 2016. Visit: www.andreahooge.com/ for more details. Street Artist Turned Gallery ArtistHush, a London based street artist, who has been steadily gaining attention in the global art scene, with his edgy and provocative, graffiti infused portraits, is highly influenced by graphic novels, animation and the diversity of street art. His love of affair with street art started when he was young, and continues to influence his gallery work today. Originally trained as a graphic designer and illustrator, at the New Castle School of Art and Design, Hush likes to combine a mixture of anime inspired characters and pop-infused imagery creating a fascinating commentary on urban culture. In the past his art has been described as Urban Abstract Pop Art, and I couldn't agree more. While interested in the contrasts and fusion of Eastern and Western culture, he confronts and examines the power, grace and beauty of the female form, centralizing his work around the feminine, exploring figurative elements through pop art renditions of geisha and anime manga images. Hush' s technique combines various street art approaches with traditional art practices. Having been influenced from his extensive travels, his canvases mimic city walls once adorned with layers of graffiti. As a result, his mixed-media pieces are an amalgamation of painting, screen-printing, spray-painting and collaging of graphic novels and comics, encouraging his viewer to get lost in the complexity of his process.
Hush has worked throughout Asia, Europe and the USA and his art has been featured is numerous publications including: Street Knowledge (Harper Collins), The Street Art Stencil Book (Laurence King Publishing), Art Monthly, and Huck Magazine. And has exhibited internationally, at galleries and fairs such as White Walls Gallery (San Francisco), New Image Art Gallery (LA) and the SCOPE Art Fair (New York, Miami and Switzerland). www.studio-hush.com Celebrating 23 years of Vancouver ArtFor twenty three years, Artists In Our Midst has been steadily supporting the Vancouver Art community with their yearly open studio tours. Each year, local artists working in various mediums such as painting, ceramics, sculpting and jewelry open their doors to the public for a weekend long art crawl. The event was created on Vancouver's West side in 1993 by a group of artists and has created an important dialogue within in the community. Over the course of the last 2 decades Artists In Our Midst has built lasting relationships between the public and artists outside the more formal museum and gallery settings. Their mandate is to promote art education and to provide opportunities for community members to enjoy and enrich their lives with visual art. They achieve these goals by giving free public art talks and exhibits, by their volunteer art residencies and artists programs at Lord Byng Mini School for the Arts, and by including their emerging artists in the main exhibition. Artist In Our Midst is supported by merchants who showcase their art, by local donors, and by the diverse communities coming to their events. Artists in Our Midst open studio tour starts May 23rd 11am - 6pm. Enjoy the diverse creative talents in our community by visiting artists in their studio settings. Explore the stories behind the art and artists. Join in celebrating the power of the visual arts as a community-based resource!
