Street Artist Turned Gallery ArtistHush, a London based street artist, who has been steadily gaining attention in the global art scene, with his edgy and provocative, graffiti infused portraits, is highly influenced by graphic novels, animation and the diversity of street art. His love of affair with street art started when he was young, and continues to influence his gallery work today. Originally trained as a graphic designer and illustrator, at the New Castle School of Art and Design, Hush likes to combine a mixture of anime inspired characters and pop-infused imagery creating a fascinating commentary on urban culture. In the past his art has been described as Urban Abstract Pop Art, and I couldn't agree more. While interested in the contrasts and fusion of Eastern and Western culture, he confronts and examines the power, grace and beauty of the female form, centralizing his work around the feminine, exploring figurative elements through pop art renditions of geisha and anime manga images. Hush' s technique combines various street art approaches with traditional art practices. Having been influenced from his extensive travels, his canvases mimic city walls once adorned with layers of graffiti. As a result, his mixed-media pieces are an amalgamation of painting, screen-printing, spray-painting and collaging of graphic novels and comics, encouraging his viewer to get lost in the complexity of his process.
Hush has worked throughout Asia, Europe and the USA and his art has been featured is numerous publications including: Street Knowledge (Harper Collins), The Street Art Stencil Book (Laurence King Publishing), Art Monthly, and Huck Magazine. And has exhibited internationally, at galleries and fairs such as White Walls Gallery (San Francisco), New Image Art Gallery (LA) and the SCOPE Art Fair (New York, Miami and Switzerland).
