A Sharp Dressed Man

​Local artist Andy Dixon is truly on a level of his own. A deeply rich, brightly lit, technicolor level. He is an overly talented, highly creative individual, who is fiercely dedicated to his craft. 

Born in Vancouver and raised by two accountants, Dixon started exploring his creative side starting at an early age.  He paints, makes music, designs and runs a record label.  His very first solo art show in 2008, "How to Draw Everything" showed 16 original works and sold out, he is a full time artist, who has a treasure trove of private clients and exclusivity at, at least 3 galleries around the world.

I recently got to spend some time with him in his East Van studio, as he used his signature colour palette to add the final touches to his newest installment, titled "Canadiana." An art installment created to answer the question: Is Andy Dixon a Canadian artist?

The word impressive hardly does these works of art justice. Andy's artistic style is reminiscent of the greats. Weather the subject he paints is still life, erotic nudes or portrait, his work is like a technicolour Fauvist, or a Rembrandt on a good acid trip.

But his work and the story that each piece tells are more then that, much more, and perhaps we should leave him in a class all of his own. After finding much success in Texas and Europe, he will be leaving Vancouver for a 6 month painting spree in New York.

When it comes to Mr.Dixon and his art, we are at the beginning of something truly great in the art world, something that only comes along every once and a while, the unfolding of an artistic genius.
